As industries worldwide look for ways to reduce plastic waste, water-soluble materials are emerging as an important alternative for packaging and industrial applications.
China-based materials startup Sengong New Materials, a leader in the water-soluble PVA film industry for single-dose applications, is positioning itself within that shift. The company recently closed another Pre-A+ funding round worth tens of millions of RMB, aimed at expanding its production capacity and accelerating the development of new material technologies.
The round was led by Shenzhen Capital Group (SCGC), one of China’s leading VC institutions, with participation from Huaying Capital (Meridian Capital). The company’s long-term exclusive financial advisor is China Renaissance. Legal advisory was provided by Guangdong-based DCY Law, facilitating the entire process.
This round comes just months after the previous financing, reflecting the capital market’s sustained interest in the advanced materials and sustainable packaging solutions sector.
The funds will be primarily used to expand production capacity, accelerate the R&D of new material technologies, and promote the comprehensive upgrade of production equipment and manufacturing processes.
Founded to develop functional PVA film materials to support the fast-growing water-soluble detergent pod market, Sengong focuses on water-soluble film technologies used in applications ranging from household & personal care products, to logistics & industrial packaging. These materials can biodegrade under controlled conditions, offering an alternative to conventional plastic films in certain packaging formats.
Driven by global policies and increasing consumer environmental awareness, the market demand for material solutions that balance performance & sustainability is becoming increasingly important. Sengong combines material technology, process innovation, and scalable manufacturing capabilities to continuously meet the market’s need for environmentally-friendly material solutions.
“Water-soluble functional materials represent an important direction for the next generation of sustainable packaging,” says Jason Wang Mingzhe, CEO of Sengong New Materials, “This round of financing will help us further strengthen our material R&D capabilities and expand our production capacity, enabling us to deliver innovative and environmentally friendly material solutions to more customers around the world.”
Looking ahead, Sengong plans to continue developing advanced water-soluble material technologies, with the goal of supporting industries transitioning toward more sustainable packaging solutions.
